Buffet Crampon R13, Bb Clarinet #75226; AND Buffet R13A, A Clarinet #81277, 1956.My father, John Tracy, was a musician in Rochester, NY for over 65 years. He passed away at almost 91 years old in November 2020. He was playing his clarinets up until last summer at home (he stopped playing professionally only a few years ago, well into his 80s).
His horns are his legacy, and I would want to sell them to a serious student or professional who could perhaps enjoy the heritage behind them.
Though his career was as Supervisor of Probation for Monroe County, John Tracy was the conductor of the 89th and later the 98th Div. Army Band and first clarinet. He changed the name of the band to be called "Rappl's Own" in honor of General Rappl, the 2-Star commanding officer. John Tracy was also first clarinet of the Monroe County Parks Band under John Cummings baton for decades. He also conducted and played in the Brighton Fire Department Band.
John Tracy also played in so many party bands many times a week and weekends for various gigs ranging from private to public events in the following groups and others: Len Hawley's Band and Orchestra (many Kodak Shows and other events), Joe Giancursio, Johnny Matt's Band, Canal Town Stompers, Smugtown Stompers, and Gene Langie's Beale Street Bandwagon to name a few.
He also got a chance to meet his hero, legendary Benny Goodman, one time on a Ferry to Digby, NS, who my father worked very hard to duplicate his sound. Though John Tracy started lessons and playing around 1943, he played these horns and others professionally for over 65 years.
I want to be sure to pass along the rich history of these instruments to whomever may be interested in their purchase. I prefer to sell the Bb and A clarinets together since I have a double case for them.
Buffet R13, Bb Clarinet #75226 (previously owned by Stan Hasty, then Director of the Eastman School of Music)
Buffet R13A, A Clarinet #81277
After acquiring the horns, I have had them looked at for any repairs and also purchased a brand new case for them. There is a double clarinet case for the Bb and A since they are being sold as a pair. Additionally, I have extra barrels, mouthpieces, ligatures, and boxed reeds to accompany the buyer.
