Description
For sale is a Buffet Crampon Paris Professional Clarinet. The matching serial number of 4052 on both joints dates this instrument to 1930.The aged and dense Grenadilla Wood body is in very good condition with no signs of cracks or repairs to the main body joints or bell. The barrel appears to show a small surface scratch, possibly crack which has been filed at the surface and does not reach the bore. All the wood edges are remarkably sharp for the clarinet's age, which indicate that this horn has only seen limited playtime despite being over 90 years old.
The careful restoration included complete disassembly, with all raw nickel-silver posts and keys cleaned and polished. They keys were fitted with new Kraus synthetic Omni-pads which are excellent for feel, resonance, and long lasting pad reliability. Key corks and tenon corks have been replaced. The bore and body has been thoroughly oiled with natural bore oil. Any loose keywork was gently tighten to ensure tight feel.
The tone quality on this instrument is outstanding. Modern Buffet A's trend to feel stuffy compared to the Bb, but this horn sings with a rich tone all the way into the altissimo range. The intonation is very solid as well throughout the range of the horn. All Buffet clarinets need a little bit of compensation to be perfectly in tune (my performing R13's included), but there are no sour notes, and NO signs that anyone has screwed with the hope our tone holes.
This clarinet comes in a cool rare SINGLE A case in good used condition, fully functional with minor wear. It is not the original case, and likely dates from the 40's. Comes with a Vandoren mouthpiece, and a metal ligature and cap. Shipping is via USPS and I pack my clarinets very securely.
