This Kohlert & Sons Bass Clarinet is an exceptional vintage German bass clarinet that plays exceptionally well. The horn was just overhauled by one of the top clarinet repairmen in the wester US. She plays freely with a centered and focused tone. Grenadilla wood construction with no cracks.
The German manufacturers of bass clarinets, including Kohlert, F.A. Uebel and others, are known for their solid builds and strong, focused sound. This is a post-WWII instrument that's built like a tank and plays like an angel. She's been kept up over the years and needs a good home.
The case is the original alligator skin covered case. Interior is in good shape. Exterior is ok, but edge leather is missing &/or fragile. Horn comes with 2 vintage Brilhart mouthpiece, single ligature & metal cap (see pix).
I am a professional, endorsed recording artist and clarinet / bass clarinet doubler (sax is my main instrument). I've played this horn in concert and recording environments and love it. I'm passing it on as I have a new low-C bass clarinet from Selmer (one of the companies I am endorsed with). The intonation is good for the vintage and resonance wonderful.
