his listing is for a Leblanc "Bliss" Bb soprano clarinet. The Bliss is the result of a collaboration between virtuoso clarinetist Julian Bliss, designer Morrie Backun, and Leblanc. This was designed to be an affordable, high quality step up (intermediate) level instrument, and it has met those goals exceedingly well. In fact, the Bliss is on par with many pro level instruments.
The Bliss came in three different configurations; full synthetic, wood, and a combination synthetic/wood. This one is the combined synthetic/wood version (model LB310). It has a synthetic body and bell paired with a wood barrel. While this might seem odd at first, there is sound logic behind it. Being that the barrel is the first part of the instrument through which the sound waves travel, it will have the most effect on the ultimate tone produced. Thus a wood barrel will produce most of the positive tonal results of an all wood instrument.
Like all Bliss variations, this clarinet has a unique 'no ring' design, and a narrow barrel/bell. This gives it a very sleek appearance, and makes it lighter in weight. This one has black nickel keys, which further adds to its unique appearance. The pads are also a black synthetic type, completing the look.
    This instrument
is in excellent physical, playing, and cosmetic condition.
There are no chips to the body. There is some minor scratching/scuffing, but it is not very noticeable. The keys are all moving freely and rebounding properly. The nickel plating on the key-work shows minimal wear. This instrument just received a "COA" (clean, oil, and adjust) repair job. It was fully disassembled so that the body could be cleaned. Keys were individually wiped down, and old oil was removed from the hinge tubes and replaced with fresh lubricant. A few corks were replaced as needed, and various adjustments performed so that all pads are sealing properly with a light touch. The instrument plays top to bottom as it should.
This instrument comes in its original plastic shell case. It is in good solid condition. There is no damage to the plastic shell. The inside is clean and odor free with normal light wear and tear.
There is no mouthpiece, ligature, or cap included. There is a swab and cork grease though.
