During the Baroque period, chalumeau was most often produced from boxwood or maple / sycamore. It is not a coincidence that this model is produced from sycamore. In my opinion, wood better vibrates than boxwood, has more components of aliquots, has greater dynamic capabilities. It is not a coincidence that this genre - sycamore / maple was used for many centuries by instrument makers. The fascinating color of this species of wood has a lot of clarinet, flute and human voice in it.
This is the instrument described in the old treaties

In the first decades of the eighteenth century, the chalumeau was especially popular in the Habsburg court, as evidenced by chalumeau parts in over forth operas and oratorios. And the Denners have many orders for chalumeau from Dukes across Europe. Composers Fux, the Bononcici brothers, Vivaldi, and Telemann wrote for the chalumeau but chalumeau parts were not common in the second half of the century. In brief revival of chalumeau after 1760, Florian Gassmann included a chalumeau part in two pieces and chalumeau parts were included in several ballets in the 1770s. But, later renditions of these pieces transposed the chalumeau parts to clarinets or flute. The chalumeau was often included in musical dictionaries until the early nineteenth cent
