This clarinet belonged to our father, Carl Perkel. Our dad was a very well known musician on the East Coast. He played with almost all the major Big Bands from the 1940's - 1970's. He was on screen in the band in the movie "The Eddie Duchin Story ", was in the band for the Broadway show " Mr. Wonderful " starring Sammy Davis, Jr., was on 2 Command albums with Urbie Green and Doc Severinson, played two presidential innaugural balls, played at Windsor Castle for the Royal family and I could go on and on. He was pretty darn good. This is the last of his instruments we kept. The saxes, flutes, etc. all went to a late, very well known, musician in Hartford, Ct. My brother and I are in our 70's now and realize we would rather see this played then sitting in our house. It still has some great music left in it. It has sat in the case since our father's death in 1989. It has not been serviced, but when he passed away he was on his way to a job with this clarinet. So it was fine then. This is not a beginner's instrument. We hope it goes to a great musician who will appreciate the history behind this instrument. It has played with many very famous musicians and for many famous peopleFrom what I can see, the clarinet looks fine, but it had been well used. There are signs of wear in all the places you would expect from an everyday instrument. It may need a little lovin' to get it back in tip-top condition, but your time will be well worth the effort. The case has some damage on the top edge of the back. You can see it in the pictures. It still holds everything well and securely closes. There is no key that I can find. This clarinet made beautiful, happy music and we would love it to come alive again. I would recommend a reconditioning of this, possibly by Selmer and have lowered our price to give some "wiggle room" for this.
