Description
This is a rare Gretsch Saxonette, a clarinet like instrument made well known by jazz musicians in New Orleans in the early 1920's.The silver bell and all other parts are signed Gretch Saxonette except for the mouthpiece which is by Selmer. I purchased this at
an auction which included a variety of clarinets by Selmer and Buffet Crampon, quality pieces made in France. Better photos of
this model saxonette can be found at the University of Illinois Digital Library (item c43d6e80-ea4e-0134-23c2-0050569601ca-c).
The bell has a small dent on the backside, but otherwise the piece seems to be in good condition.
